Welcome to Dr. Hun Bok Jung’s site! I am an Environmental Geochemist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Sciences at Kingsborough Community College. I have taught a wide range of courses on chemistry, geochemistry, water, environmental science, energy, climate change, and sustainability over the last 10 years at Kingsborough Community College and New Jersey City University.
My research focuses on the geochemical and hydrological processes controlling the transport and fate of toxic contaminants and nutrients in coastal and subsurface environments. I have conducted research focusing on groundwater and soil contamination, geologic carbon sequestration, hydraulic fracturing, nanogeochemistry, environmental remediation, and biogeochemical cycling of nutrients and heavy metals in urban estuaries.
I have supervised many undergraduate and high school students to conduct research projects on temporal and spatial variations of water quality in urban estuaries, transport of nutrients from coastal aquifers to the Newark Bay, removal of hexavalent chromium by natural sediments of the Newark Bay Estuary, water and soil quality in urban parks, and air quality monitoring in Brooklyn.
